Marine Park features wide, sycamore-lined streets that lead to shopping areas and the namesake park. Housing here consists mainly of prewar single- and multifamily homes with well-kept yards and narrow driveways. While Victorian and Colonial-style houses are available, most properties are red brick, including bungalow and Tudor Revival rowhomes. Along Gerritsen Avenue, a few mid-rise postwar co-ops round out the housing inventory. Prices generally range from $200,000 for a one-bedroom to $1.5 million for a four-bedroom single-family home, with a two-bedroom co-op starting under $250,000 and detached homes with a yard and garage closer to $800,000, depending on size and lot. “The price is better compared to neighborhoods like Bergen Beach or Mill Basin,” says Jordan Charles, a real estate salesperson with Corcoran who grew up in South Brooklyn. Mitchell Feldman, a real estate agent with Pride Estates with over 30 years of experience in the area, adds, “Marine Park is very culturally diverse, but the most important part about it is that it’s one of the more affordable neighborhoods in Brooklyn.”
Quentin Road serves as the primary commercial corridor, featuring a selection of local businesses and a Met Foods supermarket. The neighborhood also offers a variety of restaurants representing diverse cuisines, including Greek and Asian spots. For wider retail options, Kings Plaza Shopping Center provides numerous chain retailers such as Macy’s and Shake Shack. Nick’s Lobster House, situated on the waterfront, is well regarded for its fresh seafood offerings, and its in-house fishmonger is available to prepare seafood for takeaway. Farther north in the more residential sector, Michael’s stands out as a longstanding destination for refined Italian dining.
Marine Park contains a small number of public schools and private yeshivas. Part of New York City Geographic District 22, local public schools include the highly rated P.S. 222 Katherine R. Snyder and P.S. 207 Elizabeth G. Leary. James Madison High School in neighboring Midwood is the main option for high school. Private faith-based schools and charter schools are also options for families.
Marine Park dominates the green space here, and its protected salt marsh runs throughout the park. The park contains:
The park is also home to the Salt Marsh Nature Center, which offers various family-friendly educational programs focused on the local wildlife and marshes. “The Nature Center is not something you would associate with Brooklyn living,” Feldman says. “But for the people who love nature, it’s a big bonus to have in the neighborhood.”
Although Marine Park does not have direct subway service, residents have several convenient transportation options. The B2 bus connects the neighborhood to the B and Q subway lines at Kings Highway, allowing commuters to reach Midtown Manhattan in approximately one hour. Many homes feature private driveways, making car ownership practical, and the nearby Belt Parkway provides easy access to other parts of Brooklyn and beyond. These options help maintain the area's affordability while ensuring residents can travel throughout the city with relative ease.
